Greg’s current research is focused on identifying the relative strength of soil health measurements (currently with emphasis on carbon and nitrogen cycling) when applied across farms in Wisconsin. This includes evaluation of how the soils respond to key sustainable agriculture practices (e.g. tillage and/or cover crops). More broadly, Greg finds himself driven by the role soil ecology can play in reducing farms’ dependency on nonrenewable inputs and in augmenting resilience to extreme weather events. In this vein, Greg is interested in the process of transitioning conventional farms to organic and beyond.
